This Week’s Class

This Saturday we will work on balancing prana and apana, with prana being the energy of activity and inflow and apana being the energy of elimination.

We tend to look at our world through the lens of duality. Male and female. Night and day. Darkness and Light. Black and white. And we tend to label each quality as either positive or negative, when in fact no such characterization exists in the world. Different energies and forces complete the universe. Prana and apana. We need both.

You see, whatever goes in must come out. That is the law behind breathing, behind digestion. In our breathing exercises, we learn to take in the maximum amount of air, while emptying our lungs completely. When you get into breathing exercises, you will notice that unless you learn to breathe to empty out your lungs, you may not learn to take a full breath in. You may want to explore what is happening in our own lives with these two energies materially and spiritually. What are we holding onto so much that we cannot let go? What are we afraid of letting in?

Yoga is to unite. In merging these two different energies, we achieve to create the “kundalini energy,” the creative force that is the source of all living things and all our life’s activities.

The kriya (set of exercises) that we will be doing is designed to achieve a unity of prana and apana. It contains some classic moves and postures of kundalini yoga. It is an all-around exercises which will activate and relax the entirety of our body and not too strenuous or challenging. People of all ages, body types, and physical capabilities are invited to attend. The fee is a suggested donation of $10 to $15. I hope to see you all there!!!
