We recently came under a viral attack over several platforms because of a review we wrote of a book on Amazon The book negated Palestinians and their history, (Amazon has deleted the book) Our review affirmed the existence of Palestinians and asserted that the book was racist. Our facebook business page alone for DragonflyHill Urban Farm Community has received over 1700 1 star reviews, including accusations that we have insects and other vermin and that our house is filthy. But they have also accused us of refusing lodging to Jews and Israelis (two of us are Jewish, and we have had Israeli and Jewish guests and roommates) and of being bigots and racists. Some of the reviews included bigoted speech and attacks. You know the rhetoric. Some expressed a desire to put us out of business.
https://www.facebook.com/pg/DragonflyhillUrbanFarm/reviews/ Prior to this campaign, all our facebook, google and yelp reviews were 5 star.
We received dozens of 1 star reviews on Yelp, and over 130 similar reviews on Google My Business. (Update 7/3/17: Most of these reviews have been removed on these platforms. A few have been allowed to remain. )
Support our nonprofit, The WE Empowerment Center. https://theweempowermentcenter.wordpress.com/donation-page/ Currently we are asking for donations of $1 for each bad review, with a goal of $1700.
For information on the book that was being sold on Amazon that got a lot of reviews, both negative and positive: http://www.haaretz.com/middle-east-news/palestinians/1.797333 We don’t know if anyone else who wrote a review of the book was also targeted. We do not have the text of our review since it was deleted by Amazon when they removed the book from their web page.
The book claimed to be the true history of the Palestinian People, but was full of empty pages, implying that there is no Palestinian people. and there is no Palestine. Our review called this book racist for its denial of the existence of Palestine and Palestinians. We included in our review this Zionist poster from 1930s. It shows a painting of Jerusalem with the caption “Visit Palestine” to show that there is in fact a historic Palestine. Thank you to everyone who has written new reviews and has reached out to us. We don’t think this ugly campaign can hurt us if we also have the support from likeminded people. We have created a very magical space here, and look forward to years of collaboration, collectivism, craftwork, artwork, communication, receiving wanderers, creativity and so on!
